The Houston Texans extend a veteran Monday

The Houston Texans added a key piece to their special teams unit for the 2023 season. The Texans didn’t do much right on offense and defense last season, as the team is set to draft at the number two position. But the special teams were decent.

According to Rick Gosselins’ special teams rankings, the Texans had the best special teams unit in the NFL last season. They’ll have one of the most important positions locked up for next fall. According to Aaron Wilson with KPRC, the Texans are extending long snapper Jon Weeks to a one-year contract for 2023. He will make at least $1.165 million and have a signing bonus of $152,500.

Weeks has been with the Texans since the 2010 season. He made the Pro Bowl in 2015. In 2018, Weeks set the franchise record for the most consecutive games played for the Texans.

According to Charean Williams with NBC Sports, Weeks has never missed a game since he signed with the Texans. So Weeks’ record will stand in Houston for years to come. He had a mistake-free record snapping in 2021. The Texans can use someone of Week’s skillset as new head coach DeMeco Ryans builds a strong culture in Houston.
